THE NARCONA BEEF STORY
The Narcona Beef journey began in 1984 when Russell and Debbie McEwan registered Narcona Brahmans, stud number 1729 with the Australian Brahman Breeders Association. The foundation herd was predominantly Garglen and Boomaroo dams with AI used extensively alongside Cherokee and American bulls.
In 1997 the herd was taken from a part time hobby to a full time proposition, with rapid expansion of the commercial herd. Use of Blonde d’Aquitane and Charalois Bulls improved the carcass traits, and with heavy involvement in the Gympie and District Carcass Classic, a distinct eye and desire for high quality commercial cattle became a key factor within the herd.
And that has been what has underpinned Narcona Beef for the last 20 years. Our stud Brahman herd only survives with our commercial success, meaning an emphasis on high fertility, easy doing cattle with high dressing and saleable meat yield percentages. Sires are chosen on all attributes, not just breedplan, in the search for the perfect animal.
Red Angus bulls have been introduced to the herd in the last 10 years, further improving eating characteristics. Narcona Beef is now registered as a member with the Australian Brangus Society. Moving forward we are introducing Breedplan to present the data that backs up our commercial success.
